The Roma of Eastern Slovakia
HOW DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE LOVES YOU?
For three years I have been traveling regularly from Munich to Roma settlements in Slovakia, near the Ukrainian border, and I write down and take photos of what the residents want to show me. It is like a journey into a time capsule, the life of the residents seems disconnected from the outside world. Most of the huts are made of planks of wood with no running water or sanitary facilities. Poverty, unemployment, exploitation, drug abuse and resignation determine the daily life of the inhabitants …
