Valerio Bispuri was born in Rome in 1971.
Based in Rome, Italy.
We congratulate our new, 29th full member to join the NCU.
Valerio Bispuri has been working as a photoreporter since 2001. He produced reportages in Africa and Asia, but it is in Latin America that Valerio has spent most of his life, choosing Argentina as his second country. His path in documentary photography began with a deep immersion into social issues, marginalization, and spaces hidden from public view. For more than a decade, he devoted himself to large-scale, long-term investigations, exploring South America’s prison systems in his landmark project Encerrados and drug addiction in his series Paco.
Bispuri is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including multiple recognitions at the renowned Visa pour l’Image festival, where his work reached the Visa d’or finals four times. His projects have been exhibited at major global venues and published in leading international publications.
The main leitmotif of his work is a relentless pursuit of human dignity under conditions of confinement, isolation, and social vulnerability, turning photography into a tool of uncompromising witness.

Orphans
Valerio’s debut series on Noga is the project Orphans. It is a deep and poignant visual investigation focused on orphaned children and children with disabilities living in isolation across various corners of the globe—from Pakistan and Belarus to Argentina and Zambia. Continuing Bispuri’s long-standing reflection on “lost freedom,” this project exposes the hidden lives of those whom the world chooses not to see.
