NCU is pushing its international boundaries. French photographer Eric Gourlan joins our photo-documentary ranks. His track record is quite impressive. A professor of photography with experience of teaching in European institutions, he remains an active photographer in spirit, actively works as a freelancer on his own projects, co-operates in parallel with the OSCE and various publications. For the last 10 years he has been shooting reportage in Central Asia and CIS countries. However, the first works that open his page on NCU are dedicated to Russia.
Lake Baikal
In 2001, Eric Gourlan went to Baikal and shot the life of Buryat fishermen around the Svyatoy Nos Peninsula, capturing their working life in the eponymous series Lake Baikal. Cold water and warmth of fires, physical exertion and short sleep, this is how Siberian fishermen have been harvesting their fish for centuries.
