Nadezhda Khramova is a photographer of hope. Her photography always, in one way or another, touches upon aspects of overcoming, struggle and thirst for life. Any of the chosen themes of her stories excites the viewer exactly to the extent that it requires the author’s own dedication and rethinking of her own destiny. Nadia spent the first five years of her life in an orphanage. She always wanted to do good for people, dreamed of becoming a doctor, graduated from medical university, worked as a volunteer in hospitals, and in parallel with charity work she was seriously interested in photography. And it so happened that her hobby turned into a profession. Every week Khramova goes on a new trip across the country, often to small towns and remote villages that are not easily accessible. Recently, her business trips have taken her to regions around the world with populations and peoples of difficult and often tragic fate.
Afghanistan: This Is the Home of the Brave
Nadezhda’s entry into the NCU is signalled by her fresh, as yet unpublished piece on Afghanistan. The title of the project sounds like a key line from the anthem of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan:
‘دا د باتورانو کور Dā də bātorāno kor’ — ‘This Is the Home of the Brave’.
The series includes characteristic sketches of Middle Eastern life and traditional existence of speakers of the ancient Pashto and Dari languages.
